Meta Andromeda for lead generation: why your creative is now your targeting

Detailed audiences matter less and creative matters more. Here is how I plan distinct ad concepts for service businesses and what I feed back to Meta.

Andromeda is the name Meta has given to its newer ad retrieval system, which picks ads to consider for each person. Much of what is written about it comes from vendors, so I will keep to what I have seen hold up in lead generation accounts.

What has changed in practice

Your ad's content now does much of the audience selection. An ad about a parent's care reaches different people than an ad about staffing, even with the same settings. So five versions of one idea no longer count as testing: the system sees them as nearly the same thing.

What a different concept means

Changing the button colour does not make a new concept. Changing who it speaks to or why they should care does. Here is what that looks like for a clinic promoting implants:

"What implants really cost"Price comparersPlain text carousel
"Is it painful?"Nervous patientsDentist talking to camera

Feed it better signals

Meta optimises for whatever you report. If you report every form fill, it will find people who like to fill in forms. Send later stages too, such as qualified lead and booked appointment, using the Conversions API, then shift your optimisation towards them when you have enough volume.

Simplify your structure

Many small accounts still split a small budget among too many ad sets. Consolidate where you can so that each one gets enough conversions to learn. Local businesses still need location limits, and regulated sectors have their own restrictions, so broad does not mean careless.

How I test without chaos

  • Start with a few real concepts rather than dozens of variations.
  • Give each enough time and spend to produce a fair read.
  • Judge on cost per qualified lead, not click-through rate.
  • Keep the winners running and replace the weakest, instead of restarting everything.

Check that a result is real with the A/B test calculator, and preview ads with the ad mockup tool.

A real example

Designer Head Spa in California was running boosted posts with little result. After a Pixel and Conversions API rebuild and proper creative testing, it reached a steady 10 to 15 leads a day. The tracking fix and the creative work did it together.

Frequently asked

Is detailed targeting dead on Meta?

Not entirely, but it matters less for many accounts. Location, age limits and exclusions can still be important, especially for local businesses.

How many ad concepts do I need?

There is no official number. Start with what you can produce and fund fairly, often three to five truly distinct ideas for a small account.

Do small budgets still benefit?

Yes, with fewer concepts. A small budget cannot test everything, so choose your strongest ideas and give them time.
